The inspiration for my book "Black & Blue" came from my experiences as a police officer. Writing it was both a method of documenting my journey and a therapeutic process, particularly when reflecting on the challenges I faced as a black female officer in a predominantly white, male-dominated position.
I felt a strong responsibility to complete the book to empower women, especially black and brown women, in any career.
Growing up I struggled with embracing my authentic self in a society that often pressured me to conform. This book serves as a reminder to continue to be me, unapologetically.
In addition to sharing my story, my hope was for "Black & Blue" to give all women, especially black and brown women in law enforcement permission to embrace themselves.
I wanted to provide affirmations to all readers. Each chapter ends with a tip, serving as a reminder that you are not alone—
I hear you; I see you; I feel you.

Lanah Wright is not only an officer who has served her community for over seven years, but an African American woman, who has navigated the challenging territory of law enforcement with courage and dedication.
Wright holds a Master of Arts in International Crime from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her background has equipped her with an understanding of the societal issues that often intersect with policing.
Wright gives an unflinching account of her experiences, with a personal touch of humor. This book is not just for those interested in policing, but anyone seeking to understand the complexities of serving as a minority in law enforcement.
